Ethnic Britain was launched in 2002 to promote opportunities in employment, education, housing and sport to people from the Black and Minority Ethnic Community.
For almost six years Ethnic Britain continued to grow and, with the input and assistance from national and regional organisations such as CEMVO, the Commission for Racial Equality, the Ethnic Minority Foundation and several others, strived to send a strong message of hope to those people who may feel discriminated against.
Following the formation of the Equalities and Human Rights Commission in 2007 it was decided to rename Ethnic Britain to reflect the wider remit of the new organisation and to focus on promoting opportunities for everyone regardless of race, age, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender or transgender status.
Ethnic Britain was therefore re-launched in 2007 as Equality Britain.
Equality Britain believes that individuals have the right to be free from prejudice and discrimination.
Fairness and equality is not just a "good thing" but imperative in a changing and complex world.
It has been proved that by valuing diversity, organisations bring benefits to the people they work with and their local communities, as well as to themselves.
A diverse organisation draws upon the widest possible range of views and experiences, so it can listen to, and meet, the changing needs of its staff, volunteers and partners.
Despite terrific progress being made in the last thirty years it has become clear that many causes of inequality have persisted.
Equality Britain strives to continue working to help eliminate discrimination, promote equality and diversity and protect human rights, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to participate in society.
Our continuing aim is to help make Britain a fairer and more inclusive society to the benefit of everyone who lives and works here.
